From a recent Estate...Stunning pure white porcelain sculpture of a Horse and Rider playing Polo... sculpted by by the Professor Albin Dobrich... The Spanish Riding School Series. As found with black carved wood base (has carved groove for a glass enclosure to protect the sculpture... glass is missing). As seen clearly in the pictures... these areas have damage...1) Horses' left ear has had the tip broken off (about 1/8" of the 5/8" long ear is missing) 2) The polo stick has been broken and has an old repair... tape? material feels hard and is discolored.3) Underneath the horse -red arrow- is a 1/4" - 3/8" round unglazed spot... even with magnifying glass, I cannot tell if it is a flat chip or simply a defect... unglazed area. Feels fairly smooth and I almost missed it.Not sure if you can see the incredible detail of the horses veins, muscles and even ribs... and the detail of the rider as well..... a truly magnificent piece!Wood base measures 10 5/8" long x 8 1/2" wide x 1" tall with a 1/4" groove Horse and rider measures 9 1/2" wide from tail to bent knee in front x 8 1/4" tallOval base of sculpture measures 8 1/8" x 3 1/2"Marked on bottom in blue: Wien with the beehive mark with a crown and also...Impressed #1692. |
