Note on the Illustrations by Sir William Rothenstein
‘The greater number of the drawings here reproduced were made during the first year of the war, when Air Marshals Sir Frederick Bowhill, Sir Hugh Dowding, Sir Arthur Longmore and Sir Edgar Ludlow-Hewitt were at the four Commands. The subjects were chosen as being representative of these Commands, irrespective of any special exploits carried out, since I felt that while individual airmen are awarded signal recognition, they stand for the quality of the airmen of the Air Force in general. The ranks and decorations in the lists are for the most part those in force at the time the drawings were made’
A lovely book which maybe of particular appeal to collectors of WWII, R.A.F books and/or memorabilia
Any questions are most welcome
Thank you.
